CBD Treatment
IBS

IBS
Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder of the large intestine that causes gas, bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, or a combination of both. There is no known cause for IBS, and it is a chronic condition that must be properly managed during the span of one’s lifetime. Many patients discover that food or environmental stressors exacerbate symptoms. Properly managing one’s diet and stress levels can help alleviate symptoms. However, for some, symptoms persist even with strict dietary restrictions and medication.
Treatments for IBS
The most common treatments for IBS involve the removal of known triggers. Patients may be asked to make note of what they eat immediately before they experience symptoms. Treatment also typically involves learning stress relief exercises and sometimes counseling. While IBS doesn’t lead to tissue changes in the colorectal system, and does not increase risk of colon cancer, it can lead to secondary issues such as anxiety caused by symptoms, hemorrhoids due to recurrent constipation, and a decreased quality of life.
OTC medications may help manage symptoms as well, but long-term use of these products may make symptoms worse over time.
CBD Oil for IBS
Early research into the use of cannabis for inflammatory bowel diseases such as IBS focused on marijuana and THC. New emerging studies, however, have found that CBD oil may also stimulate cannabinoid receptors and lead to a reduction in IBD symptoms. Further studies are needed to determine how and why it works, but many anecdotal testimonies confirm that patients note fewer IBS symptoms when taking CBD oil regularly.
Choosing the Right Oil
If you’re considering using CBD oil for yourself, it’s important to choose the right one. Find an oil that is grown without pesticides and other impurities, and ensure that you’re getting pure CBD that is not “cut” with other oils.
