Study Shows CBD To Reduce Symptoms Of MS

Multiple sclerosis, or better known as MS, is a disabling disease of the central nervous system. It affects the flow of information from the brain to the body. The cause of MS is currently unknown and symptoms can relieve in time. Two-thirds of those affected with the disease are women. The signs and symptoms of MS vary from person to person but are typically quite debilitating. Recent research has shown CBD to reduce symptoms of MS. However, before we dig deeper into this enlightening information, the most common signs and symptoms of MS are:
- Fatigue
- Spasms
- Pain
- Insomnia
- Tingling
- Numbness
- Blindness
- Loss of cognitive function
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a major non-psychotomimetic compound of the Cannabis Sativa plant. It provides many benefits similar to that of Cannabis, but contains no THC. Therefore, CBD is completely legal in all 50 states and delivers no psychoactive effects. CBD has been shown to carry neuroprotective and neurogenic effects as well as anxiolytic effects in humans and animals. CBD is currently being used to treat many mental and autoimmune disorders and is currently being tested for its anti-cancer properties. However, the most thought provoking and research-based facts have been shown in CBD to reduce symptoms of MS.
Research
In a federal funded observational study, which can be read more about here, 433 patients (55% female) were observed in how an oral spray of CBD, administered six times a day, affected their MS over the course of three months with CBD being their only treatment option.
After the first month, 349 patients remained in the study. Those who opted out did so because they were unable to wait for treatment to take effect due to quality of life issues. Those who remained were subjected to multiple tests to see if their MS symptoms had improved and all patients had improved in some nature, others greater than some.
After the end of the three months, only 281 patients remained. Those who opted out did so for the same reasons as those before. Of the 281 patients, all had remarkable results. They experienced few to no body spasms, had an increase in cognitive function and daily activities, were able to sleep on a regular sleep schedule, had significantly less pain, and were able to function better in their every day life. All 281 patients wanted to remain on the CBD treatment.
