CBD Treatment for Chemotherapy
Cancer is the most devastating disease in our times. It can happen to anyone and at any stage of our lives. Sometimes, we can predict that certain people with the genes or certain kinds of habits might get afflicted by this disease, but other times people are just taken by surprise when diagnosed with cancer. Lives of people suffering from cancer and that of their loved ones is completely havocked. Common therapies in practice to cure cancer are –
All three of these therapies are harmful and leave lasting impact on the body. This is the reason the Federal Government has put in funds to further study the disease and find more safe and natural treatments for it. One treatment that stands out in this research is the CBD treatment to relieve excessive pain.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, commonly referred to as CBD, is a non-psychotomimetic compound that is derived from the plant called Cannabis Sativa. CBD provides almost the same benefits as Cannabis, but goes a little further. Cannabis contains THC that is banned in some part of the US. CBD does not have THC, which makes it 100% legal in all 50 states of the United States. Furthermore, it also displays capability to reduce anxiety in humans and animals. It was already being used to cure mental and autoimmune diseases. It is now being used as a part of many cancer treatments and treats palliate wasting and emesis in patients. The most significant contribution of CBD has been, that it has been known to reduce the severe pain caused due to chemotherapy.

The research

Under a study based in Temple University of Philadelphia, a research funded by federal government studied the effects of CBD in mice. You can read the complete research here. In this research the mice were first given paclitaxel, which is a drug that causes pain that is associated with chemotherapy. The mice were divided into two groups. One group was injected with liquid CBD and the other group was not. Two tests were conducted on the study groups. In the first test, they injected acetone into the mice. Acetone has the property of creating an extremely cold sensation in the body. The second test was the prodding test, where the scientist repeatedly prodded the paws of the mice to see the extent of pain they can bear before they draw their paws back. Amazingly, the mice which were given liquid CBD were less susceptible to the pain and cold, while the other group of mice which were not given CBD reacted viciously to the caused pain.
It was thus concluded that the group of mice given CBD were more resistant to pain, and this was beginning of the research that has been growing more and more successful in treating pain of chemotherapy with CBD.
