CBD May Prevent Cancer Caused By Smoking

It is not shocking that smoking cigarettes can cause life-threatening risks. One of those risks being cancer.  According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, cigarettes are the cause of 160,848 cases of cancer each year. However, this statistic has not made everyone put down the pack. Likewise, breakthrough research has shown a natural solution that may inhibit this process. That solution is CBD and how CBD may prevent cancer caused by smoking. However, before we get into this amazing research, we will first go over what CBD is and what all the hype is about.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a major non-psychotomimetic compound of the Cannabis Sativa plant. It provides many benefits similar to that of Cannabis, but contains no THC. Therefore, CBD is completely legal in all 50 states and delivers no psychoactive effects. CBD has been shown to carry neuroprotective and neurogenic effects as well as anxiolytic effects in humans and animals. CBD is currently being used to treat many mental and autoimmune disorders and is currently being tested for its anti-cancer properties. However, the most thought provoking and research-based facts have been shown in how CBD may prevent cancer caused by smoking.

Research

In a federal funded research study, which can be read about more here, it was shown that CBD may prevent cancer caused by smoking. It is noted that the main cause of cancer from smoking is due to cytochrome P450, family 1, member A1 (CYP1A1). CYP1A1 is a protein found in humans. This protein is OK is small levels but has been shown to be cancerous in high amounts. CYP1A1 is involved in the creation of BP-7,8-dihyrdrodial-9,10-epoxide. This has been noted as the ultimate carcinogen. Therefore, higher levels of CYP1A1 is responsible for the creation of this carcinogen, leading to a higher risk of developing cancer. Likewise, cigarette smoking leads to increased levels of CYP1A1.

To test if CBD may prevent cancer caused by smoking, a research lab was able to extract this protein to directly test it. Shocking results were noted when CBD binded to the protein. CBD was able to keep the protein from increasing in levels. It was even able to control levels to make them balance at a normal, healthy level. Therefore, with a normal balance of CYP1A1, CBD may prevent cancer caused by smoking.
